Medical Technology & Life Sciences

Component cleaning for the  medical technology sector. Validatable – not just clean.

In medical technology, cleaning is not a minor step, but a process that must be validatable. Polishing paste in contoured areas, particles in capillaries, organic residue films on implant surfaces: anything that slips through here will become apparent at the latest during passivation, coating or cleanroom assembly – or not at all, which is even worse. We provide cleaning and verification from a single source.

Describe your cleaning requirements

Reproducible rather than manual

In medical technology, the greatest factor is rarely the cleaning performance itself, but rather reproducibility: manual reworking cannot be validated – and anything that cannot be validated becomes a risk in a regulated environment. Typical requirements:

  • A validatable, documented process rather than manual processing
  • Reliably cleaning hard-to-reach channels and capillaries
  • Protect sensitive surfaces – no scratches, no impact marks
  • Complete removal of polishing paste from contours
  • No staining, no chemical residues
  • Clean handling after cleaning right through to further processing

Cleaning is carried out prior to passivation, coating, bonding and cleanroom assembly – and as preparation for further validated manufacturing steps.

Typical components

  • surgical instruments
  • Implant components, orthopaedic parts
  • Dental instruments and components
  • Endoscopy components
  • Medical pumps and valves, fluidic components
  • Parts for laboratory, diagnostic and analytical equipment
  • Precision engineering components, housings and precision parts

Typical types of dirt

  • Coolant lubricants, machining oil
  • Abrasive particles, polishing compounds and polishing paste
  • Organic residual films
  • Particles in capillaries and channels

Why we clean

Passivation · Coating · Cleanroom assembly · Bonding · Functional safety · Specified surface finishes · Preparation for further validated manufacturing steps

A process that you can document

We design cleaning processes for medical technology in such a way that they can be repeated: defined protocols rather than empirical knowledge, multi-stage processes with separate cleaning and rinsing stages, controlled water quality and a drying process that leaves no stains or chemical residues. We tailor the way the component moves and is flushed through the process to its geometry – this is particularly crucial for the result in the case of capillaries, channels and fine contours. Where a cleanroom connection is required, we develop a project-specific solution.

OUR SOLUTIONS: TAILOR-MADE CLEANING SYSTEMS FROM SILBERHORN

Reproducible rather than manual: our systems operate using defined, documentable recipes – the basis for ensuring that your cleaning process can be validated.

High Purity: When requirements go beyond fine cleaning

Sterile precision components and parts for cleanroom assembly achieve a level of purity that requires dedicated processes, dedicated media management and a dedicated handling concept.

Services – have it cleaned, have it checked

Contract cleaning without any investment on your part.

We can clean your components as part of our contract cleaning service – during periods of peak demand, when production runs are starting up, or if it is not yet cost-effective to operate your own facility.

Frequently asked questions about medical technology and life sciences

Will Silberhorn take on the cleaning work instead of selling a facility?

Yes. Through our contract cleaning service, we take care of cleaning your components without you having to make any investment – often a practical way to get started whilst the production run and process have not yet been finalised.

Can Silberhorn extract particles from capillaries and fine channels?

This is one of the most common challenges in this field. The crucial factor is not the pressure, but whether the fluid flows through the channel at all and then drains out completely. To achieve this, we move the component during the process and adapt the flow pattern and direction of outflow to its geometry.

How does Silberhorn polishing paste remove residue from fine contours?

Through multi-stage processes in which ultrasonic cleaning and immersion cleaning are combined, and the rinsing stages are clearly separated. We determine which combination works best by testing the original component – polishing residues behave very differently depending on the paste and the component’s geometry.

What makes a cleaning process validatable?

That it consistently produces the same result without manual intervention, and that this result is verified by metrological measurement. Defined recipes, controlled media and documented evidence are prerequisites for this.
